About

The Penny Longo Memorial Fund was set up in 2017 to honor a dedicated, thoughtful and caring educator. Penny taught at PS School 30, Frank A. Sedita, for almost 15 years. She passed away on May 13, 2017, after a hard-fought battle from the effects of lung cancer.

Penny taught in the Buffalo Public School System for almost 30 years at different schools concentrating on Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. Her dedication to the children and to the school was extraordinary. The children always came first. She sat on committees, participated in group meetings and mentored future teachers all with the excitement of making a difference in each child’s life.

She was a great wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt to her family.

She was the glue that stuck everyone together.

We will never forget her infectious smile, her joyous personality and her ability to bring out the best in everyone.

Penny left behind family, friends, and colleagues…all expressing the same thought…we lost a great one…personally and professionally.

Fund Objectives

We have and will continue to participate in the following activities:

- - To fund the purchase of school uniforms (polo shirts) with the school logo and Penny’s initials for every incoming pre-k student at the beginning of the school year
  - Contribute to Buffalo Hospice yearly
  - Contribute to various educational based charities
  - Contributed to the Butch Rolle Foundation which provides scholarships for H.S. students
  - To contribute and fund one/two field trips each school year, so every pre-k student will be able to attend and learn through fine motor skills
  - To contribute to and fund a year-end activity for all pre-k students celebrating a successful school year

These activities will be coordinated by school staff and communicated to us to make sure we agree on the activity.

We feel very strongly about the direction of this fund and the contributions it has already made and we will continue to make for years to come!

Events

Golf Tournament 2023

The 7th annual Penny Longo Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Monday, August 7th, 2023 at Diamond Hawk Golf Course. We will have an 11 am shotgun start with registration to begin at 9:30 am. The tournament includes lunch at The Hawk, a buffet dinner/ open bar, and an ice cream truck after golf! Golfers will also enjoy the use of golf carts, along with complimentary drinks and snacks during the tournament. Dinner’s entertainment will consist of a prize ceremony, live music, Chinese & Silent Auctions, and raffle giveaways! Proceeds from the tournament go directly to Buffalo PS 30, Frank A. Sedita Academy, and the Buffalo PS Pre-K programs, where Penny worked for 25 + years. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Hospice Buffalo to provide care and comfort to patients and their families as well as other local charities with a similar mission.

Overall, we have raised over $50,000 towards educational initiatives, including new personalized school uniforms, field trips, school supplies, gifts, books, gross motor equipment, and much more! With your help, we can continue to provide elementary students with a positive school experience and a lifelong love of learning! Thank you for your strong show of support and let’s make this year’s tournament more memorable than ever!

Sponsorship & Donation Opportunities

Gold Sponsor ($1,000) You will receive a complimentary four-some to participate in the golf tournament that day. Your company’s logo/slogan and message will be added to the gift items passed out to all golfers, displayed on the banner upon arrival, presented on one of the holes, included in the brochure, & mentioned at the dinner.

Drink Cart Sponsor ($500) You will receive advertising on the drink cart(s) driving around keeping the golfers hydrated during the tournament as well as your company logo in the tournament program

Hole Sponsor ($100) You will receive a custom sign on one hole, complete with your company logo or slogan, and a message! You will also be acknowledged in the brochure and at the dinner the following golf.

Gift Baskets, Gift Cards & Merchandise/ Items: Names will be mentioned on brochures and at dinner. *Any quantity and value are appreciated.
